The Hookery - Our Story
Crafting Calm (and Sanity) Through Chaos
Welcome to The Hookery where yarn meets meltdown, and somehow, something beautiful comes out the other side.
Let’s rewind. My earliest memories are of sitting next to my mum — a professional knitter, crafting genius, and all-round wizard with wool. While her needles clicked away like magic, I was off having a grand old time with leftover yarn. Honestly, you haven’t lived until you’ve turned a skein of wool into a makeshift zipline for action figures. Good times.
Back then, crafting was comfort, connection, and love. But I didn’t truly get how powerful it was until my world flipped on its head.
In 2020, the world went into lockdown — and so did my heart. My beloved dad fell critically ill on the other side of the world. I was stuck in Australia, helpless, heartbroken, and hanging on by a very frayed thread. Cue sleepless nights, endless worry, and days spent pretending to be a functioning adult at work while I was quietly falling apart.
So, I did what any semi-rational person does in a crisis: I turned to YouTube. I taught myself to crochet — badly, at first. (We’re talking truly tragic little blobs of yarn pretending to be beanies.) But those late-night stitches gave me something to hold onto when I felt completely untethered.
When Dad passed, I kept crocheting. And somewhere between the ugly scarves and lumpy washcloths, I found peace. Crochet became my safe space. My reset button. My cheap therapy.
Fast-forward a bit — life got louder. Corporate ladder, two kids, full-time job, full-time mental load. Crochet went from hobby to survival strategy. My skills got better. My makes got prettier. People actually wanted the things I was making. Some even cried happy tears when they received them (which I’m taking as a solid win).
Even better? Crochet slowly killed off my worst habits. Doom scrolling? Down. Online shopping sprees? Cured (mostly — I still find sneaky parcels hidden in the linen cupboard). I had more time, more calm, and way more beautiful handmade things in my life.
Eventually, I realised: this wasn’t just my hobby — it was my happy place. And maybe, just maybe, it could be yours too.
So, The Hookery was born — part cheeky rebellion, part yarn-fuelled therapy session, and 100% beginner-friendly.
Here’s the vibe:

- Just fun, easy kits designed to give you a win, not a breakdown.
Whether you’re looking for calm, want to make something actually useful, or just need a break from your screen and the general chaos of adulting — we’ve got you.
Grab a kit. Make a mess. Stitch a thing. Bitch a little (or a lot). Then sit back and admire your handmade magic.
